ART: Conartists Art Collective

Brian Shevlin
Picking my way down a cramped stair to a basement, a whole world of original contemporary art, vintage fashion and new customization and print emerged before me. This was Conartists, a creative collective spanning fashion designers, painters, installations, music and graphic artists all working out of the same studio space and regularly putting on exhibitions and events. I had a chat with studio curator and multi-artist Brian Shevlin about what was currently happening on Ludlow Street's art scene. Check it out on our Live Stream.

STYLE SPOTTING: New York Street Trends

Vintage was definitely the key ingredient when Fashion Beat TV bumped in to this creative duo consisting of photography student Monnet Lucki, who attends Parsons School of Design and L.A. hair stylist Deandre Peoples. Both were wearing outfits consisting primarily of vintage clothes and accessories with Deandre mixing in some cool, zippered trousers he had gotten from a fashion show he had styled. Check out the Live Stream video interview where Monnet goes in to more detail about her sources of inspiration and mixing art with fashion in her photography as well as us taking a closer look at Deandre's outfit.

For some unusual, smaller and quirkier brands New York's Lower East Side is a great place to find designer boutiques stocking up on the latest New Yorker and International labels. We took a video tour through the garment racks at International Playground and checked out designs by Chromat Garments and Carlos Campos.
