20 years ago popular music was ripped apart to reveal a new underground movement, hell-bent on screaming it's way past the superficial dribble that had plagued the late 80's. Spearheading this movement was Nirvana. The influence this band has had on popular culture - not only in music but in literature, fashion and film is legendary. Doc Martins, ripped up jeans, converse shoes, egg-shell sunglasses, cardigans and eyeliner; soon even Hugo Boss was copying it. Though commercialization was quick to kill the songs and spirit live on.
Today marks the 20th Anniversary of the release. Back then Kurt and Nirvana smirked at comments that the record might go on to sell 100,000...now it's beyond 10,000,000. With loads of great commemoration events going on, not least the
official benefit concert hosted by Kris Novoselic this is going to be an exciting few days. Long Live Punk n' Roll!
